Since then, pretty much every major event, tech or otherwise, scheduled in the first half of the year was canceled, suspended or postponed, and even those held in the second half of the year having a questionable fate. But the people behind the events didn’t despair – they simply moved their events online. Live-streaming events, keynotes, and product reveals was commonplace even before the pandemic hit – the only difference is that this year, the live audience will simply not be there. So, let’s take a look at some of the most high-profile tech events you’ll be able to still visit this year – remotely, of course.
All Microsoft events
The Redmond Giant seems to take the ongoing pandemic very seriously: the company decided to hold all of its events scheduled between this July and next June exclusively online. This will, of course, impact the company’s presence at events like Computex 2020, rescheduled for September, and CES 2021, not to mention Build 2021. This year, Microsoft’s traditional Build event (scheduled for May 19–21) will be held exclusively online – it will be streamed from Seattle over the web, with no audience present. This won’t make it any less exciting – we expect to see presentations of exciting new products and services like Windows 10 X, the latest changes to Windows and Office, and some new (possibly foldable) Surface hardware.
WWDC 2020
Apple announced that its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will also be held online-only. The event will be held at the beginning of June, streaming worldwide – it won’t take place in San Jose this year, so Apple will donate $1 million to organizations in the city whose revenues will be affected by the changes. Apple is expected to present exciting news at the event, including a new fitness app, new iMessage features, new health features for the Apple Watch (like sleep tracking and blood oxygen level detection), and more.
Digital Transformation Conference
The Digital Transformation Conference, traditionally held in London, is one of the most important events focused on the digital workspace, emerging technologies, and product innovation. This year, the event will be held online-only, with more than 30 speakers across several disciplines. The organizers are giving away 1000 free tickets for the two-day event taking place on June 3 and 4. A live event will be scheduled for later in the year. Unfortunately, not all of the events were lucky enough to find a new home online. Google has canceled its traditional I/O developer conference held in May, and Viva Technology, scheduled for the middle of June in Paris, will also not take place this year. Luckily, there are enough events left that we can attend… from the comfort of our homes.
